Musa (Musical System of Acting)

Method of practice, training, preparation of the actor and the composition of the role using Music as a driving power and a catalyst of the acting process.

The secret of Music and the experience of trance in the art of acting

-

It is a psychophysical system of education, exercise and preparation of the actor, which is based on the ancient theory of the ethics of Music, and repositions music as a driving force and catalyst in the process of interpretation and creation. It is an autonomous and holistic method, which leads to an organic presence, enriching the expressive means of the actors, liberates, and leads safely to the psychosomatic situations and the creative stage readiness.

The whole MUSA system was created and enriched with a plethora of theoretical sources and acting techniques; it is in constant dialogue with the great masters of theater and music, and experts from the fields of music therapy, drama therapy, theater anthropology and neuroscience, the research about the unknown power of music and how it affects the human brain.

With MUSA system we achieve an active, dynamic and holistic reception of Music. Thus the practitioner is led to an organic creation and presence at any moment.

Exercising with MUSA liberates us and opens us to a new world of expression the variety of emotions and sensations that only music can give us.

The creation of MUSA is the result of long-term research in the sources of acting, in the “laboratory” of the rehearsal and the creation of performances.

MUSA works harmoniously and in addition to most of the methods and work systems we use in acting, performing, singing, dance theater and of course the preparation of roles for the lyrical and musical theater.

MUSA was created primarily for the needs of the actors, but during the years of its application, it has been tested by specialized individuals and groups and it has been recognized to enhance the therapeutic action of music therapy, drama therapy, dance-kinesiotherapy and art therapy in general.

These elements make the MUSA method stand out, being a unique and very rich system of training, exercise and creation.

Specifically in the year  2017-18 and in 2018-19  Sotiris Karamesinis  held,  along with his  partner  and co-founder of  MUSA company Aggeliki Toubanaki,  two extensive post-training workshops and two summer seminars for actors, singers, and dancers. Their goal is the cultivation of musicality, the varied vocal approach and especially the safe and efficient voice production. These give freedom of expression and the unhindered act of speech and improvisation.
