Participation – Invitation to the Interdisciplinary & Cross-Artistic Dialogues of the NATIONAL THEATRE
Preliminary Space D’ 4 | Theme: RITUAL
Sunday, January 4 | 14:00
Events Hall | Tschiller Building

Ritual needs no naming.
It is experienced.
It is the passage from the individual to the collective—
the moment we become community.

My first engagement of 2026 is, for me, both a great honor and a creative challenge.

An honor, because I have been invited by the National Theatre to participate in its series of events:
“Preliminary Space D’ | Interdisciplinary & Cross-Artistic Dialogues.”

A creative challenge, because I will be collaborating with two distinguished interlocutors:
Gerasimos Makris, Professor of Social Anthropology,
and Ioanna Toubakari, dancer and performer—
united by the powerful concept of RITUAL

In Foyer D’4, Professor Gerasimos Makris of Social Anthropology at Panteion University will introduce us to the concept and necessity of ritual, presenting examples from the Orokaiva society of Papua New Guinea (north of Australia).

Through movement and voice, we will collectively explore how ritual can bridge everyday life with the sacred.
Within this context, I will contribute with vocal improvisations employing looping techniques, and will facilitate collective vocal improvisations in direct interaction with the audience.
Participants include members of Vocal Circles as well as the polyphonic ensemble Polyphony Melissa of the Melissa Network for Migrant Women—both of which I lead as conductor.
When voice, body, and intention align, art ceases to be mere spectacle and becomes an experiential act of connection.
