The technique of the Voice

Post Image

Aggeliki teaches at the ‘Philippos Nakas Conservatory’.

  • The technique of the Voice
  • Improvisation

Her teaching approach is based on the multi-dimensional nature of the voice

“The voice is an instrument with incredible improvisational and interpretive capabilities. It’s also a powerful means of communication. With the voice we communicate in our everyday life, either through speech and singing form, or through nonverbal sound forms.

The knowledge of voice’s technique is an important asset for the healthy and efficient voice production, the musical cultivation, and the emergence of various vocal extended sounds and most of all the unobstructed personal expression of speech, singing, and improvisation.

The cultivation of our technique or skillfulness is not intended to show off. On the contrary it’s used to the service of music and aesthetic excellence. Improving the technique of voice is significant and essential for anyone who wants to make the utmost use of the expressive capabilities of this instrument and through it to express himself intellectually and emotionally”.

Primary thematic axes in voice teaching:

  • Physiology and anatomy of the voice
  • Supporting sound through diaphragmatic breathing and physical “release”
  • Strength and development of a strong “body” of sound (power and projection)
  • Activate the different loudspeakers
  • Awareness of the structures’ motions of the vocal mechanism
  • Developing dynamic and wider flexibility in handling of the voice passages
  • Achieving homogeneity, volume and dynamics of the voice
  • Research and analysis of voice’s different quality and tone (apart from the melodic vocabulary of speech) such as vocals, extended vocals, and freestyle vocabularies
